Jersey Mike’s is the third fastest growing quick-service restaurant in the country, according to a list published by industry magazine QSR on October 27.
The sandwich sub chain, which started out as a solo store on the coast before then-teenage employee Peter Cancro bought it from his boss and spent the next two decades turning the brand into a national empire, has opened 189 locations since 2019 and currently has 1,856 stores. The vast majority of them – 1,842 – are franchised establishments.
“Despite restrictions, construction delays and various other factors amid the COVID pandemic, these fast service chains have been successful in expanding their brand into new and existing markets and reaching more customers,” wrote Danny Klein , editor-in-chief of QSR, next to the list.
Nationwide sales at Jersey Mike total $ 1.595 billion, with an average location of $ 936,000 per year.
QSR also included the chain in its list of the 50 best fast food chains nationwide, released in August.
Many other list makers have locations in New Jersey, including Starbucks and Domino’s, the only contenders to beat Jersey Mike’s.
