CHICAGO – SnackFutures, the innovation and venture capital hub of Mondelez International, Inc., expands its CaPao range with the launch of CaPao Quinoa Squares. The product is one of the first on the market to carry the Upcycled Food Association branding on its packaging.

The new snacks combine oats and puffed quinoa with parts of the cocoa fruit that are traditionally discarded after the extraction of cocoa beans for chocolate production. Flavors include coconut oats, ginger berry, and almond orange, and the products have a crisp but chewy texture, according to the company.

The upcycled certification mark was introduced in April to provide consumers with clear indications of the presence of recycled food ingredients in a range of products, including food and beverages, pet foods, dietary supplements and Moreover. CaPao is one of the first brands to receive certification, meeting the criteria as a product made with ingredients that otherwise would not have been used for human consumption, are sourced and produced using supply chains verifiable and have a positive impact on the planet, according to the company.
